Embrace Summer with Refreshing Chocolate Strawberry Frozen Yogurt

When summer rolls around, ice cream inevitably becomes my ultimate guilty pleasure – the kind of treat that can easily tempt me out of bed! While I love all frozen delights, lately I’ve developed a particular fondness for frozen yogurt. There’s something uniquely satisfying about its creamy texture combined with a fresh, slightly tangy taste, especially when the weather heats up.

Having previously explored the delightful tang of lime yogurt ice cream with raspberries and the rich indulgence of Greek yogurt ice cream with walnuts and honey (a definite must-try dessert!), as a true chocoholic, I knew it was time to create a chocolate-infused version. And let me tell you, this recipe did not disappoint!

To elevate the flavor and add that quintessential taste of summer, I swirled some vibrant strawberry jam into the chocolate base – because strawberries and chocolate are truly a match made in heaven. After a brief freezing period, the result was a stunning coupe filled with creamy chocolate frozen yogurt, boasting a subtle hint of strawberry, and generously adorned with fresh fruit. Every single spoonful was devoured with pure joy, and I am confident that you will adore this homemade frozen yogurt just as much as I do!

The Magic of Homemade Frozen Yogurt

There’s a special charm to making your own frozen treats, and frozen yogurt is no exception. It offers a wonderful alternative to traditional ice cream, often being lighter while still delivering incredible flavor and a luxuriously creamy texture. The secret lies in using high-quality Greek yogurt, which provides a natural tang that beautifully balances the sweetness of honey and chocolate, creating a more complex and sophisticated flavor profile. Plus, Greek yogurt adds a boost of protein, making this dessert feel a little more wholesome.

Choosing to combine chocolate and strawberries wasn’t arbitrary; it’s a classic pairing for a reason. The deep, slightly bitter notes of chocolate perfectly complement the bright, juicy sweetness of fresh strawberries. This combination creates a delightful contrast that keeps each bite exciting. When you mix strawberry jam into the base, you get an intensified fruit flavor that weaves through the chocolate, making every spoonful an experience.

What You’ll Need for This Decadent Strawberry Chocolate Frozen Yogurt

Creating this irresistible chocolate strawberry frozen yogurt requires just a few simple ingredients, easily found at any grocery store. The precise measurements are detailed in the comprehensive recipe card located at the very bottom of this blog post. Here’s a closer look at what plays a starring role in this delightful dessert:

A flat lay photo showing individual ingredients for Chocolate Frozen Yogurt with Strawberries on a white background: heavy cream, honey, salt, Greek yogurt, strawberry jam, chocolate sauce, and fresh strawberries.
  • Heavy Cream: This is essential for achieving that light, airy, and incredibly creamy consistency. When whipped, it incorporates air, transforming the frozen yogurt into a soft, melt-in-your-mouth experience. Ensure it’s very cold for optimal whipping results.
  • Honey: Our natural sweetener of choice. Honey not only adds a delicate sweetness but also contributes to the smooth texture of the frozen yogurt, preventing it from becoming too icy.
  • Salt: Just a tiny pinch makes a huge difference! Salt is a flavor enhancer, balancing the sweetness and deepening the overall taste profile of the frozen yogurt.
  • Greek Yogurt: The heart of our frozen treat. Opt for full-fat Greek yogurt for the creamiest results. Its thick consistency and characteristic tang are what give this dessert its unique depth and refreshing quality.
  • Strawberry Jam: This ingredient provides a concentrated burst of sweet, fruity strawberry flavor that pairs beautifully with the chocolate. Feel free to experiment with other berry jams like raspberry or red currant for a slight variation.
  • Chocolate Sauce: For that rich, decadent chocolate element. You can use a high-quality ready-made chocolate sauce from the supermarket for convenience, or easily prepare your own. To make it at home: simply bring ½ cup (125 ml) of heavy cream to a boil, remove it from the heat, and stir in 4 oz. (100 grams) of finely chopped dark chocolate until smooth and glossy.
  • Fresh Strawberries: These are primarily for serving and garnish, adding a beautiful pop of color and a fresh, juicy counterpoint to the frozen yogurt. Look for bright red, firm strawberries with fresh green leaves that smell sweet. Remember to wash them thoroughly *before* removing the crowns; this prevents the berries from absorbing excess water and becoming watery.

How to Prepare Frozen Greek Chocolate Yogurt with Strawberries: A Simple Guide

Crafting this delightful frozen treat is surprisingly straightforward and doesn’t require an ice cream maker. You’ll find a detailed, printable recipe with a step-by-step description in the recipe card below. But for now, let’s walk through the easy process:

A 4-panel collage photo showing the preparation steps for Chocolate Frozen Yogurt with Strawberries: whipping cream, folding ingredients, mixing jam and sauce, and pouring into a freezer box.
  1. Whip the Cream and Honey: In a large, chilled bowl, combine the very cold heavy cream and honey. Using an electric mixer, beat until the cream forms stiff peaks. This step is crucial for incorporating air and ensuring your frozen yogurt is wonderfully light and creamy, rather than dense or icy.
  2. Fold in the Yogurt and Salt: Gently fold the whipped cream and a pinch of salt into the Greek yogurt. The key here is to be gentle to maintain the airiness of the whipped cream, which contributes to the soft texture of the frozen yogurt.
  3. Add Flavor Swirls: Next, carefully add the strawberry jam and chocolate sauce to the cream mixture. Gently stir these in, creating beautiful swirls of flavor without completely blending them. This creates a delightful marbled effect and ensures every bite offers a different taste experience.
  4. Freeze to Perfection: Pour the mixture into a freezer-safe container, ideally one with a lid to prevent ice crystals. Place it in the freezer for a minimum of 4 hours, or until it’s firm enough to scoop. For best results, freeze overnight.

Once perfectly frozen, serve generous scoops of your homemade chocolate strawberry frozen yogurt, garnished with plenty of fresh strawberries and an extra drizzle of chocolate sauce. A dollop of fresh whipped cream on top is also a wonderfully indulgent addition!

Tips, Substitutions, and Creative Variations for Your Frozen Yogurt

This chocolate strawberry frozen yogurt recipe is fantastic as is, but it’s also incredibly versatile! Don’t hesitate to experiment with these tips and variations to customize it to your liking:

  • Chocolate Choices: Instead of, or in addition to, chocolate sauce, you can stir in finely chopped chocolate chips or chunks – milk, dark, or even white chocolate would be delicious. This adds a lovely textural element to the creamy base.
  • Berry Bliss: While strawberries are a classic, feel free to swap them for other berries. Blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, or even sliced peaches would make excellent additions, either mixed into the base as jam/fruit or served fresh as a topping.
  • Nutty Crunch: Add a delightful crunch by folding in chopped nuts like walnuts, pecans, or almonds. A sprinkle of granola could also work wonders for breakfast-style indulgence.
  • Citrus Zest: A touch of orange or lemon zest folded into the yogurt mixture can brighten the flavors, especially if using a berry other than strawberry.
  • Spiced Up: For a more gourmet touch, a tiny pinch of cinnamon or a drop of vanilla extract can enhance the chocolate and fruit flavors.
  • Serving Temperature: If your frozen yogurt has been in the freezer for longer than 24 hours, it might be quite firm. Let it sit at room temperature for 5-10 minutes before scooping to achieve the perfect consistency.
  • Ice Cream Maker Option: If you own an ice cream maker, you can absolutely use it for this recipe. Simply follow the manufacturer’s instructions for churning a custard or frozen yogurt base. This can result in an even smoother texture right out of the machine.
  • Storage Secrets: Store your homemade frozen yogurt in an airtight container in the freezer for up to one month. To prevent ice crystals from forming on the surface, press a piece of plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the frozen yogurt before sealing the container. If you notice ice crystals, it’s best to discard it for quality and safety.

All my recipes are written both in Metric (gram / ml) and US Customary (cups / pounds). Here you can select which type of amount you would like to see.

Metric – US Customary

Instructions

  1. Beat the cream with the honey in a large bowl until stiff.
  2. Pour in the Greek yogurt and salt and fold into the cream.
  3. Add the strawberry jam and chocolate sauce and gently stir into the cream mixture.
  4. Pour that into a freezer box and let it freeze for at least 4 hours.

Notes

1. Chocolate sauce: Use ready-made chocolate sauce from the supermarket, or easily make it yourself. Bring ½ cup (125 ml) cream to the boil and turn off the heat. Stir in 4 oz. (100 grams) of finely chopped chocolate.

2. Variations

  • Instead of chocolate sauce, you can also stir in finely chopped chocolate.
  • Use milk chocolate or white chocolate instead of dark chocolate
  • Other fruits, such as blueberries, raspberries, and peaches, are also delicious.

3. Serving: You can probably scoop it right out of the freezer if you’re using it within 24 hours. Otherwise, you may have to let the ice cream stand for 5 minutes before you can scoop nice balls.

4. Ice cream maker: If you want to make this in the ice cream maker, you can do that too. Follow the instructions given by the manufacturer.

5. Storage

  • Freezer: You can store the frozen yogurt with chocolate and strawberries for one month. When you see ice crystals appear on the top in the meantime, it is better to throw it away.
